Rajinikanth targeted at the International fest
Superstar Rajinikanth was the soft target at the seventh International Film Festival of Tamil Nadu 2010, organised by Manickam Narayanan of Seventh Channel. While speaking on the occasion, popular writer/novelist Charu Nivedita said that Rajinikanth, who is placed on a high pedestal should come forward and encourage such international festivals, so that more people would be encouraged to watch them. He went on to add that Rajini should take cue from Amitabh Bachchan and play roles for his age and not do films like Enthiran.
Taking a dig at the recent scenario in Tamil film industry director Mysshkin said, “Today Tamil film industry is on a downward spiral! I would say that my two earlier films — Chitthiram Pesudhadi and Anjadhe were third grade films. Also, this happened because I succumbed to the so-called commercialism in films. People still mock at me because there are no takers for Nandhalala (his third venture) and it is still lying in the cans. But I did not make Nandhalala to allow it to become an object for bargain in the film market, this is a film that is straight from my heart.”
He sarcastically added, “If I ask my family to come and watch a film, their first choice would be a Rajinikanth film! Will they ever say we want to go for a good movie?” The filmmaker, who known for his frank manner, said that he has not watched a Hindi film for ages, (the last film he saw was Sholay) but still he is making a Hindi film with John Abraham. He quipped, “I preserve my ‘virginity’ by not watching Tamil films as well for a long time.”
