Anushka is open to experimenting
The hot-and-happening actress Anushka was in Chennai for the remake of her Telugu hit Vedam, which has Simbhu in the lead. Titled Vaanam in Tamil, the dusky beauty played the challenging role of a hooker in the original and won critical acclaim for her captivating performance.
“In fact I was not too keen to act in the remake,” she began the conversation. “I have done three films in Tamil — Rendu, Vettaikkaran and Singam and fortunately all of them turned out to be hits. Though I didn't think of the remake earlier, when director Krish (who did the original version) approached me to be a part of the project in the same role, I could not refuse. I have tremendous confidence in him and I knew he would do justice to the remake as well.”
The south sensation will be portraying the controversial role of a sex worker for the second time. “I have been always open to experimenting with roles, whether it was Arundhathi or Vedam. People were apprehensive about my playing the character of Arundhathi, who had supernatural powers. It turned out to be a huge hit. So, the question of a controversial role doesn’t arise,” she smiles.
The leggy actress adds, “Moreover, Vedam was a proven subject in Telugu. I enjoyed every moment that I worked with Krish in Vedam. I hope to feel the same way with Vaanam too. He told me that he was making a few changes here to suit the milieu. It’s just the second day of shooting in Chennai.” She has acquired the reputation of being media-shy. “It is not that I avoid the media. My work is my priority. I don’t want to get disturbed while at work. I am basically a friendly person.”
Will we be seeing more of her in Tamil movies?
“It all depends upon the script. My kitty is full with Tollywood projects as of now.”
When queried about Superstar’s Enthiran she says, “The entire world is looking forward to it. I am no exception!”
Making waves in a kutthu number of Anushka’s, which she's done with Simbhu in the Tamil version. This was included at the behest of the actor himself, a fact which STR confirmed at the media gathering.
“After watching Arundhathi, I am a great fan of Anushka's. And I am not a person to become anyone’s fan easily. Earlier it was Jyotika’s acting which really fascinated me and I was a crazy fan of hers,” the actor said gleefully.
As for the kutthu number he candidly admitted, “Yes, it was me who insisted on having a hot number in Vaanam.
Anushka is a great dancer and I too go to any extent in dance movements. So that's it!”
He sounded excited — a feeling which is sure to be shared by audiences who watch his kutthu number with Anushka.
