Emraan - "Even before SRK, actors were accepted in negative roles"
There is something about Emraan Hashmi whose stint in Bollywood has turned out to be pretty remarkable. After all he is the only actor from past or present who has consistently played a character on the opposite side of law and still been accepted as a hero. "Well, I won't actually agree that Shah Rukh is the only other actor who has been expected in negative roles earlier," says Emraan when comparisons are drawn with the superstar, "Even before Shah Rukh, there were many heroes who found acceptance in negative roles." He goes on to rattle down a few examples, though none belonging to the current generation. "Look at Sunil Dutt in 'Mother India', Amitabh Bachchan in 'Deewar', Ashok Kumar in 'Kismat' – it’s a long list actually of those great actors who were seen in powerful negative roles and still accepted whole heartedly by audience." Well, the fact still remains that while Shah Rukh Khan has left behind his anti-hero enthusiasm after a hat trick of 'Baazigar', 'Darr' and 'Anjaam', Emraan Hashmi only seems to be revelling in it film after film. |
