Kareena Kapoor was born on 21st September 1980 in Mumbai. She is second child of her parents. Her father, Randhir Kapoor was great actor and mother, Babita Kapoor was an actress. She is granddaughter of film actor and director Raj Kapoor. Kareena has one elder sister named Karishma who is also an actor.

According to family tradition, her father, Randhir Kapoor wanted her to obtain early marriage and avoid the acting. This causes clashes between her families and so her mother left the house with her and sister Kareena. She is motivated by her mother who did many jobs for her family. Her mother, Babita did the job until Karishma got break in films during 1991. She completed her school from Jamnabai Narsee School, Mumbai and college from Mithibai College, Vile Parle for the 2 years. She then took admission into Government's Law College. After completion of one year in Law College, she moved towards acting.

She was initially signed for film "Kaho Naa Pyar Hai" opposite with Rakesh Roshan but due to some problem she did not performed into that film. She performed first film named "Refugee" released in 2000 and directed by J.P.Dutt. In this film she performed with Abhishek Bachchan. Film was based on love story of Bangladeshi girl and Naaz. She won Filmfare Award for Best Debut and she become star because of her beauty and talent.

Her film "Mujhe Kuch Kehana Hai" opposite with Tushar Kapoor was super hit. Her role in film "Asoka" was famous but film didn't do well which was directed by Santosh Sivan. She got first nomination for the Filmfare Best Actress for this film. Her hit role of "Poo" in "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham" released in 2001 was very successful directed by Karan Johar. In this film she performed with Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Hritik Roshan and Kajol. This was second topmost hit film of that year and she own nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress.

In the year 2004, she played role of prostitute in the film "Chameli" directed by Sudhir Mishra and she won Filmfare for Special Performance. She performed different kinds of films such as suspense film "Fida and Aitraaz" and comedy film "Khushi and Hulchul". In 2006, her first released film was "36 China Town" and next film was "Chup Chup Ke". Both the films performed well on the box office. The film "Omkara" based on adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello. This film was directed by Vijay Bharadwaj and co-stars were Saif Ali Khan, Ajay Devgan, Konkana Sen and Vivek Oberoi. She won forth Filmfare for this film. Her comedy and romantic film "Jab We Met" with the actor Shahid Kapoor was biggest hit of the year. She won Filmfare Award and Star Screen Award for this film. Her latest released film is "Tashan" in Feb 2008. Her upcoming romantic film is "Kambakth Ishq" and performed with Akshay Kumar.

Kareena likes stage performances also. Her first world tour was in 2002 with the Bollywood stars Arjun Rampal, Hrithik Roshan, Aftab Shivdasani and Karisma Kapoor. Her second world tour was in 2006 with other stars such as Zayed Khan, Salman Khan, Shahid Kapoor, John Abraham, Esha Deol and Mallika Sherawat.
