Kajol was born on 5th August 1975 in Mumbai. She is from Bengali-Marathi family. She is daughter of Shomu Mukherjee who is film producer and mother, Tanuja is a film actress. Tanuja performed films in Hindi as well as in Marathi. Her grandmother Shobhana Samarth and her aunt Nutan were also great actresses. Her paternal uncles named as Joy Mukherjee and Deb Mukherjee are film producers and Grandfather Sashadhar Mukherjee was filmmaker.
Kajol got married with famous actor Ajay Devgan on 24th February 1999. Both of them have one daughter, Nysa born on 2003.
Kajol was studying in St. Josephs School in Panchgani but left the school and did first film when she was only seventeen years old. Her first was "Bekhudi" released in the year 1992. But the film was not hit on box office. She was in focus from the film "Baazigar" released in 1993 and this was her second film performed opposite with Shahrukh Khan and Shilpa Shetty. Pair of Shahrukh Khan and Kajol was also very famous. She performed many hit films with Shahrukh Khan such as Karan Arjun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge, Hulchal etc.
She is stared in the films such as "Yeh Dillagi" with Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, Gupt with Bobby Deol and Manisha Koirala, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge etc.
Year 1995 was lucky for the Kajol. She gives two hit films during same year. One is "Karan Arjun" directed by Rakesh Roshan and another film is based on re-embodiment. Her next film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge becomes super duper hit on box office and also biggest film in Hindi Cinema. This film was directed by Aditya Chopra and co-star is Shahrukh Khan. This film was running for 12 years in Mumbai Talkies. She got filmfare Award for this movie as a Best Actress.
In film Gupt: The Hidden Truth she played role of villain. Her role from this film is very significant and co-stars are Bobby Deol and Manisha Koirala. This film was biggest hit during that year. For this film she got Filmfare Award for Best Villain. She also played comic role in film Ishq with Ajay Devgan, Amir Khan and Kajol.
