Rani Mukherjee is queen of the Hindi film industry and her first name also Rani was born on 21st March 1978 in Kolkatta. Rani. Her father, Ram Mukherjee was film director and mother Krishna Mukerjee was playback singer. Raja Mukherjee is her brother who is producer and now moved towards direction field. Her cousin, Kajol is also famous actress in Bollywood. She learned Odissi dance. She completed her education from Mithibaai College from Mumbai.
She started acting by performing into her father's film which was in Bengali and released in 1992. She performed first movie in Bollywood was "Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat" released in 1996. But this film was flopped on box office and she again moved towards education and completed her college. After completion of education, she again moved towards acting and performed films "Ghulam" with Aamir Khan which was hit, "kuch Kuch Hota Hai" with Shahrukh Khan and Kajol and directed by Karan Johar becomes super-hit. For "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", she won first Filmfare Award for Supporting Role.
She followed her career by signing on several projects. Unfortunately, most of them did not do well at the box office. Although Badal was one of the highest grossing films of 2000, she still didn't succeed to establish her status in the industry at that point of time. The film "Chori Chori Chupake Chupake" released in 2001 becomes much hit and she performed with Salaman Khan and Preity Zinta. She then played movie "Mujhse Dosti Karoge" with Hritik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor, "Saathiyaa" with Vivek Oberoi and film was directed by Shaad Ali. For Saathiyaa she won Filmfare Critics Award.
In the year 2005, she gives four hit films such as "Black" directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, "Bunty Aur Bubly" with Abhishek Bachchan and directed by Shaad Ali, "Paheli" with Shahrukh Khan and directed by Amol Palekar and "The Rising" directed by Ketan Mehta. All these were released in year 2005. She won IIFA and Filmafare Awards during that year. Her next films were "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" in 2006 directed by Karan Johar, "Babul" directed by B.R.Chopra, "Ta Ra Rum Pam" in 2007, "Laaga Chunari Mein Daag" directed by Pradeep Sarakar and the film "Saawariyaa"
Rani is a stage performer. In 1999, her first world tour was happened with Aishwarya Rai, Amir Khan, Twinkle Khanna and Akshaye Khanna. Second tour was in the year 2004 with Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra.
