Vidya Balan was born on the New Year of 1978 i.e 1 January, 1978 in the Palaghat (Kerala). She is daughter of P.R. Balan who is Vice President ETC channel and mother is house maker. Vidya Balan has one elder sister named Priya Balan who is married to Kedar. She was born in Palaghat in Kerala. She completed her school from St Anthony convent school and graduation in sociology from St Xavier College Mumbai and MA in sociology from University of Mumbai. When Vidya Balan was in college, she was used to perform and study in Prtithvi Theaters. Due to family tradition of Iyer- Tamil Vidya and her sister Priya learned Carnatic dance. Vidya Balan actress started her modeling career with a TV ad of Surf Excel in 1998 as a Model. Vidya Balan has done many TV ads successfully and also done some music videos. Vidya Balan has done modeling for 25 TV ads. Vidya Balan has acted in music videos for Pankaj Udhas, Euphoria, Shubdha Mughal.

Vidya Balan played the one in 'Hum Paanch' TV comedy serial which was telecasted on Zee TV. The serial 'Hum Paanch' has a story of a father Anand, who has five daughters and always faces difficulties that are created by his five daughters.

Getting into Acting Career on Big Screen

Vidya Balan started her film career with the film 'Chakram' in the year 1996-1997 where her role was against great actor Mohanlal who got Padmashri award. But this movie was stopped on the mid way production. Vidya Balan was dropped out from a big Tamil film 'Manasellam' for not giving satisfactory performance. The role was against Srikanth who is very popular in South film industry. After dropping her, the role was given to Tamil actress Trisha Krishnan by the director.

In the year 2005 Vidya Balan made her first big screen appearance with the Bengali movie 'Bhaalo Theko'. For this movie Vidyaa Balan won Best Actress award i.e. Anand Lok Puraskar. Also the first big release this year in bollywood was 'Parineeta' and this movie was big commercial success. After that Vidya acted in many successful films including Lage Raho Munna Bhai Guru (2007), Salaam-E-Ishq: A Tribute To Love (2007), Eklavya: The Royal Guard (2007), Heyy Babyy (2007), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), Om Shanti Om (2007), Halla Bol (2008). However her upcoming movies are Kismat Konnection and Mukti, which are due to release in 2008.
